Lean Into Autumn With These Classic Cocktail-Inspired Hard Seltzers
September 18, 2020 ET
Many of us like to joke that time has lost all meaning in 2020, yet we can still count on the changing of the seasons. You might be commuting less often than you used to, but the leaves will still turn on schedule. Consider it a gentle wake-up call to set the tastes of summer aside and focus on fall flavors, especially when it comes to what you're drinking. Passionfruit and watermelon have their time and place, but that time is not autumn.
Of course, we're not suggesting that you need to replace all of your fruity hard seltzers with nothing but salted caramel versions. Luckily, there is an alternative, just in time for cooler weather: Social Club Seltzer, a hard seltzer brand that dips into cocktail history for inspiration.
"Social Club Seltzer was created to mirror the complex and sophisticated flavor profiles of classic cocktails, but maintain the refreshment of a hard seltzer," says Lana Kouznetsov, VP of Beyond Beer for Anheuser-Busch, which produces Social Club. "We’re excited to offer something different from the usual fruit-forward seltzers currently on the market and selecting the right cocktail flavors was very important to us. We tested multiple cocktails and took a look at drinks from the last 100 years focusing on gin, whiskey, and Cognac cocktails."
After plenty of tinkering and testing, the Social Club team selected three classic cocktail flavors for its hard seltzers: Old Fashioned, Sidecar and Citrus Gimlet.
"The three flavors pair nicely together and appeal to a variety of taste preference, from light oak flavor notes for a bourbon lover to the bright citrus notes of the classic gimlet," Kouznetsov adds.
For those times when you want all the flavor of a cocktail but the lightness and zip of a hard seltzer, Social Club presents the perfect happy medium. With a just-right 7% ABV and only 150 calories, Social Club seltzers are just decadent enough to feel like a treat without requiring you to break out your mixology setup or commit to a stiff drink.
"With the flavor of a traditional cocktail and refreshment of a seltzer, Social Club Seltzer appeals to sophisticated palates of cocktail lovers and seltzer fans alike," Kouznetsov notes. "The cocktail-inspired flavors are sessionable and can be enjoyed year-round. The bright Citrus Gimlet is perfect for a warm day grilling with friends, while the smoky notes of our Old Fashioned Seltzer pairs well with a fall afternoon watching baseball or the rounded easy-drinking notes of the Sidecar can stand next to any holiday meal."
Sorry, passionfruit and watermelon. We'll see you again next year.
